Frequently asked questions
Common questions about physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy at our Oshawa clinic. Our goal is to give you as much information as possible — no unwanted surprises. If your question isn't answered here, just give us a call.
General
We treat a wide variety of conditions — musculoskeletal issues (back pain, neck pain, arthritis), sports injuries, post-surgery rehabilitation, motor vehicle accident (MVA) and workplace (WSIB) injuries, neurological conditions, and balance and mobility issues. See our Conditions page for the full list.
In Ontario you do not need a referral — physiotherapists, chiropractors and Registered Massage Therapists are primary healthcare providers, so you can book directly. Some extended-health insurance plans do require a physician’s referral for reimbursement, so it’s worth checking your policy.
Your practitioner conducts a comprehensive assessment — a discussion of your medical history, a physical examination and any relevant tests — then creates a personalized treatment plan based on your condition. Please allow about 30–60 minutes.
Physiotherapy focuses on rehabilitation and movement restoration through exercise, manual therapy and modalities such as heat, ice and ultrasound. Chiropractic focuses on spinal alignment and uses adjustments to treat musculoskeletal pain. Both aim to improve function and reduce pain, and at DECA our teams often work together.
Yes. Our practitioners — including a Certified Athletic Therapist — are highly trained in treating sprains, strains, fractures, tendonitis and ligament injuries, using exercise therapy, manual therapy and modalities to aid recovery and prevent future injury.
Fees, Insurance & Booking
Fees vary with the condition and treatment. A first physiotherapy appointment is typically $110 (not including specialty modalities), and returning visits range from about $70 to $85 depending on the condition and treatment. Call 905-674-6477 for exact pricing for your service.
Physiotherapy, massage therapy and chiropractic care are not covered by OHIP for most adults, unless treatment is part of a hospital program. They are typically covered through extended health benefits, and certain groups (seniors, low-income or those on social assistance) may qualify for subsidized programs. We work with all extended health benefit plans and direct bill most insurers for you.
Yes. We work with all extended health benefit (employer) plans and can direct bill most insurers, so there’s little to no out-of-pocket hassle. We also handle motor vehicle accident (MVA) and WSIB claims.
Walk-ins are welcome when availability allows, and we aim to see new patients within 48 hours. Booking ahead online or by phone guarantees your preferred time.
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 24 hours or missed appointments may be subject to a fee.
We’re at 2600 Simcoe St N, Unit 2, Oshawa, ON L1L 0R1 — one minute off the Highway 407 exit, with convenient on-site parking.
Treatment & Recovery
It varies with the condition, your goals and your progress. Some people need only a few visits; others need longer-term care. Because our treatment is focused and one-on-one, many patients feel meaningful relief in as few as 2–3 visits. Your therapist provides an estimated plan and adjusts it as you respond.
Yes — your therapist may prescribe home exercises to complement your in-clinic treatment, with guidance on doing them safely and effectively to help speed your recovery.
Wear comfortable clothing that lets the therapist assess and treat the affected area — for example, shorts for a knee issue, or a loose-fitting top for neck or shoulder concerns. For massage therapy, comfortable, loose clothing is recommended.
Treatment is delivered by licensed, college-regulated clinicians and is safe. Some hands-on techniques or exercises may cause mild, temporary discomfort, but your clinician always works within your comfort level.
Yes. We provide multidisciplinary rehab for motor vehicle accident and workplace injuries, help with claim documentation, and direct bill eligible insurers. See our Auto & Work Injury page.
Yes to both. We provide discreet, specialized pelvic floor physiotherapy, and our Certified Athletic Therapist offers sports-injury rehab and return-to-play care alongside our physiotherapy team.
Yes. For patients under 18, a parent or guardian must attend the initial consultation, provide consent for treatment and remain on the premises during the appointment.
